Regardless of who wins the upcoming Presidential election, do you think the United States is ready for an African American President? If you can, try to argue both sides.
Why do people care that our next President of the United States might be an African American man? This country is about equality and equal opportunity (even when people don't receive it) and I think that people should seriously stop worrying about what color a person's skin is and start looking beyond that. Their character, their personality, their views. I believe that it is past time that people stopped worrying about what color a person's skin is.
I am personally ready for an African American presidential candidate. I don't care what race the candidate is. What I don't like though is how people are convinced that Obama will be assasinated so they don't even bother voting for him. I believe that if he is elected, it is not going to be smooth sailing. However, the country will adjust and we will be better for it.
At first I didn't believe that America was ready or ever going to be ready for a African American President. But after his recent speech I believe he has persuaded and shown alot of people that he is ready for the task. Of course there will still be some people who aren't happy about the decision and probably will give him a hard time even if he is working his hardest to please everyone. Because of our country current economic crisis I do believe there will be alot of pressure over his head and the opposing party will try their best to make him look bad. However, I think Obama will continue to show people that he has what it takes regardless of his skin color. He is a man of value, wisdom, intelligence and everything else it takes to be a successful leader.
Although I am for McCain, my dislike for Obama has nothing to do with his race. I think if Americans weren't so short sighted as far as race, we would definitly be ready for a black president. However, so many people are not willing to accept that race is simply a color, and nothing else.
A person is smart, but people collectively are dumb. Sadly some people are racist and some look for a new change. I think that Obama would be a good president if we give him a try. No offense to other people but I think "W." was a terrible leader who got us into a lot of trouble.
