Is it a human right to exploit the environment? In some religions it is believed that "God" created the Earth, and that humankind could take what they wanted from it.
No it is not! Taking what they wanted does not translate directly to destroying it completely so that it can never be of use to humanity again. That would be like taking a life. A life for temporary pleasure should not be a human right.
I think it is our right to take whatever we want, but if we take too much then we have to deal with the consequences also. So we need to find a happy medium.
i think the idea of a "god" creating earth for humans to take whatever they want is absurd. however the earth came into existence, it is childish and selfish to think that it is here just for us. we share this place with so many animals and creatures. just because we can do something doesn't mean that we should. those people who think we can take whatever we want need to realize they aren't 3 years old anymore; they can't take their friends toy and break it, just because they want to.
I think when god said to take what we want, he didn't mean to build upon it the way that we have. Natural resources essential to living, yes. I guess what you have to ask yourself is what really is essential to living and what isn't?
This reminds me of good ol' colonialization-ism. The white folk find themselves this beautiful fruitful plain and decide that the Indians aren't utilizing it fully and use that observation to justify their abduction of the land from the natives. Now, they did this without understanding the cycle of land and the Indian's method of fallowing. Fallowing is using a plot of land for growing purposes of dissimilar crops then, when the seasons change, the band of people move. They burn the plot ridding it of undergrowth and allowing it to become reborn. Bringing this idea into today's world... We have no restart button. Our environment will only become more and more depleted of its natural resources.
Well personally I am a Christian and I do believe that God created the earth. When he created man he gave man dominion over everything including the animals. I do think a lot of people take advantage of the environment sometimes because I believe God does want us to take care of what he gave us. We should learn to value the earth because it was a gift from God.
